Traditional Program The heart and soul of our organization is this program. Our main objective is to enhance the lives of children living in absent parent families. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or have completed high school and willing to commit at least one year of volunteer service. Following an intensive screening process, volunteers are matched with children ranging in age from 6-14 years. "A Link to the Future" is a special branch of our traditional mentoring program, matching older volunteers with our children. The Couple Program Much like the traditional program, this intensive screening process matches a couple (husband and wife team) with a child. Through the couple's example the child learns about caring, trust and the love necessary to maintain a positive human relationship. The School Program This program follows the same basic format as the traditional program. The difference is that high school volunteers are recruited to serve as mentors to elementary and middle school age students from the same school district. The high school students become actively involved in sharing their time, knowledge, and experience with a child. The student volunteers benefit by gaining an opportunity to become actively involved in community service within their schools. The Site Based Program Every two weeks Littles chosen from our waiting list are bused to Prudential or Fleet PA Services at Montage to participate in our site based program. Employees from these sites volunteer their time to participate in activities with their Little. The BBBS staff and the volunteers plan the activities and the matches must stay on site. This is a great opportunity to get the children on our waiting list involved in our program. |
