Free Information and Referral System Telephone

Bringing people and services "together".  FIRST is a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week program linking people in need of help or information to the appropriate agency. FIRST also provides information on resources and/or services for shelter, food, and other emergency needs during non-business hours. FIRST is the helpline for Lackawanna County information.

FIRST publishes the Human Resource Directory for Lackawanna County, as well as the Clubs and Associations Directory.  FIRST also compiles information for the Guide to Human Services found in the Blue Pages of both the Verizon and Yellow Book Directories.

FIRST also houses the INFORM Program, which is a computerized message system in English and Spanish containing information on health, mental health, and other issues. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  A complete index of messages can be found by clicking on the link above or from the FIRST office.

Language Line is a program offering over-the-phone interpreting for 140 languages, available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. A phone call to FIRST at  961-1234  will connect Language Line interpreters to assist persons who do not speak English in accessing community resources.
